Newcomer Services

PCAS provides help for Newcomers to identify and resolve settlement issues which may pose as barriers to their integration into Canadian society and entering the workforce.. We then facilitate a move towards viable employment.

Who We Serve:

Newcomer centre of peel – This program is government funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and is available free of charge to:

  • Landed Immigrants/Permanent Residents
  • Convention Refugees
  • Live-in Caregivers

Benefits:

  • Receive assistance with identifying own vocational skills and interest areas based on self-strengths and limitations
  • Receive guidance in assessing level of employability (newcomers jobs)
  • Overcome identified barriers to employment
  • Explore career possibilities, opportunities and jobs for newcomers
  • Achieve a greater level of sufficiency
  • Develop positive attitude/tools to deal with, and overcome barriers to settlement and employment centre for newcomers
  • Prepare for successful integration into Canadian culture
  • Receive introduction to Canadian workplace culture
  • Build on self-esteem and independence

Services are provided in: English, French, Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati and other languages as required.

Participants are provided with:

  • Information and orientation
  • Referrals to other community services as needed
  • Pre-employment services (newcomer services): First Canadian Résumé, cover letter and interview skills
  • Career assessment along with current labour market information and research
  • newcomers jobs search goal planning and preparation
  • Access to workshops on settlement and employment-related topics-newcomer centre of peel
  • Assistance with the completion of applications such as CCB,GST/HST credit, Social assistance forms and OHIP (Health Card)
  • Information on the Canadian system, including education, taxation and healthcare
  • Commissioner of Oath Services (attestation for educational and housing purposes…etc.)
  • Interpretation and translation services – centre for newcomers
